Computed tomography of spinal lumbosacral lipoma in children

CT scans of 10 children with a lumbosacral spinal lipoma were reviewed to define the CT capability and were compared with operative findings. CT demonstrated bone defect, a lipoma as the fatty density and a tethered conus as well, which was thought to be difficult to delineate with CT. The extent of a lipoma and a spatial relation between a lipoma and a tethered conus were made clear by a sagittal reconstruction image. We feel that plain CT scans with sagittal reconstruction images give us enough information we need and myelography will be unnecessary in majority of cases with a lumbosacral lipoma. (author)
