  • 1. Nuclear Chem. Dept ., Hot Labs. Center, AEA., Cairo (Egypt)

Description

Purification of wet-process phosphoric acid was studied by using the synthesized phosphonate chelating compound nitrilo trimethylene phosphonic acid (NTMP). The phosphonate compound was synthesized, characterized then used for purification of wet-process phosphoric acid. The formula of the synthesized phosphonate was confirmed using elemental analysis, FTIR spectrometry and NMR spectrometry, The application of NTMP for treatment of crude phosphoric acid decrease the hazardous metal content; iron by more than 75% ,chromium 20%, uranium by 20% and aluminum 20% by weight. Factors that could affect the removal of these metals from phosphoric acid using NTMP were studied as; time, temperature, P2O2 concentration and NTMP concentration. The solubility of NTMP was studied as a function of P2O5 concentration and temperature. The regeneration and recycling of the used NTMP were studied
