A non-destructive determination of the internal distribution of cadmium (115Cdsup(m)) in the stem of a tomatoplant (Lycopersicum esculentum, Mill. cv. Moneymaker) by the analysis of the externally measured beta-spectrum

Description
Within the frame of a research programme on environmental pollution by heavy metals, a method for in-vivo determination of the localisation and depth-distribution of β-emitting nuclides was developed. Experimental data and results on time-dependent distribution patterns of sup(115m)Cd in stems of tomato plants are reported. Beta spectra are recorded at the surface of the labelled plant. Curves for count rate, energy and radioactivity per layer of the plant stem are interpreted. The data for these curves can be obtained in one experiment
