Description

During reactor operation, the heavy water is polluted by physical particle, mainly oxides of construction materials due to corrosion. Since corrosion products are subject to nuclear reactions and their products increase radiation dose which intensifies already existing radiolytic dissociation of heavy water (2D2 + O2). Due to contact of heavy water with helium cover gas and air the Ph value changes as well. Thus the need of periodical or permanent heavy water purification is a must. System for purification of heavy water at the Ra reactor is designed to operate at two levels: first is evaporation for eliminating the mechanical particulates, and the second which is ion exchanger of nuclear grade IRN-150 which is used as a filter
