Measurement of the average lives of excited levels using the γ Doppler effect after α decay (case of 223Ra→219Rn)

Description

Using the γ Doppler shift following α decay, a method is described to measure the lifetimes of nuclear excited states in the pico-second range. This method should be applicable to many α-emitters. Five excited states in 219Rn were measured. (Auth.)
