Description

The energy dependence of the angular correlation coefficient for the first forbidden non-unique beta transition leading to the third excited 2+ state in 72Gd is measured using a conventional fast slow scintillation assembly. An attempt to extract the nuclear matrix element parameters is made following Simm's formalism. Results of analysis of the data are discussed on the basis of nuclear structure. Angular correlation studies on the unique first forbidden beta transition in 166Ho is found to exhibit anomalous deviation from the expected theoretical shape. Present measurements yielded energy independent attenuation factor. The nuclear model predictions are compared with the experimental results to extract definite conclusions about the applicability of a particular model. (auth.)
