Magnetosolid mechanics in fusion reactor technology

Description

This paper discribes the magnetosolid mechanics which appears in a magnetic fusion reactor. Magnetosolid mechanics is the study of the interaction between the magnetic and elastic fields. Magnetomechanical problems have been recognized as quite important to the engineering feasibility of a fusion reactor, because many of its components are in a strong magnetic field. We should evaluate the behavior of these components for a fusion reactor design. Superconducting magnets of a fusion reactor receive several patterns of magnetic loads. We discuss here magnetoelastic instability problems of superconducting magnets which occur if the magnet current is high enough to overcome the bending stiffness of the magnets. We also discuss the magnetic field and stress analyses of a ferromagnetic material which is considered a candidate material for the first wall. (orig.)
