On the origin of time-dependent CP asymmetries in neutral B decays

Description
CP asymmetries in neutral B decays may arise either as a result of CP violation in the decay of a pure B0(anti B0) state or as a consequence of B-anti B-mixing. We show how these two mechanisms can be distinguished in a model-independent manner by their different characteristic time-dependence. We use this analysis to examine standard model predictions.
