Current core damage insights regarding boiling water reactors in the United States
- 1. Science Applications International Corp., Albuquerque, NM (USA)
Description
This paper addresses the latest insights obtained from Probabilistic Risk Assessments (PRAs) of BWRs. A look at past PRAs indicates that 'station blackout (loss of power)' type accidents were one of many dominant contributors to the overall core damage frequency at BWRs. However, recent analyses are concluding that this accident type is the dominant contributor. These latest insights are discussed in this paper and are based on the findings of two BWR studies done as part of NUREG/CR-4550. (orig./HSCH)
