Iterative solution of the Poisson equation for the Thomas-Fermi atom

  • 1. Atomic Energy Board, Pelindaba, Pretoria (South Africa). Physics Div.

Description

Application of the Thomas-Fermi atomic model for the study of dense matter is hampered by the necessity of solving a rather intractable non-linear differential equation. We give a constructive proof of existence of a solution which may be efficiently exploited for the numerical solution of the problem. We also prove the uniqueness of the solution
