Fabrication of Pu fuels
Description
COMMOX, created to promote and commercialize mixed oxide fuels for light water reactors rests its action on the available capacities at the Dessel BELGONUCLEAIRE fabrication plant and at the CEA Fabrication Complex of Cadarache (CFCa). The specific constraints of plutonium-fuel fabrication are reviewed: radiotoxicity of Pu, safety-criticality, accountancy of fissile materials, Am241. Then, this paper presents the different stages of the fabrication process and the experience acquired with the difficulties met during campaigns. The MELOX fabrication plant (capacity of 100 to 120 t/year) should start its production in 1993-1994

COMMOX cree pour promouvoir et commercialiser les crayons combustibles au Pu pour Reacteurs a Eau Legere (REL), appuie son action sur les capacites disponibles a l'usine de BELGONUCLEAIRE de Dessel et au Complexe de Fabrication de Cadarache (CFCa) du CEA. Les contraintes specifiques a la fabrication du combustible au plutonium sont passees en revue: radiotoxicite du Pu, surete-criticite, comptabilite des matieres fissiles, Am241. On presente ensuite les differentes etapes du procede de fabrication et l'experience acquise avec les difficultes qui sont apparues au cours des campagnes. L'usine MELOX, d'une capacite de 100 a 120 t de (U+Pu) devrait commencer a produire en 1993-1994Additional details
