Recent results obtained at GANIL on the limiting temperatures in the fusion of nuclei and the onset of multifragmentation
Description
Information on the maximum excitation energy per nucleon- and temperature- in fusion nuclei with intermediate energy heavy ions has been obtained in several inclusive experiments and a few coincidence experiments. Temperatures around 5-6 MeV are reached and seem to be the limit of formation of thermally equilibrated fusion nuclei, in agreement with the predictions of static and dynamical models. Above the limiting temperature, multi-fragmentation of the system in central collisions appears. Semi-exclusive measurements have been performed on the system Ar + Au between 40 and 60 MeV/u; the results will be presented
