Sheilding consideration in the optimization of protection and safety in a radiotherapy facility
Description
In a radiotherapy bunker, there are mainly two radiation components, namely primary and secondary radiation based on which barriers are classified as primary and secondary barriers. The leakage radiation is assumed to be emitted isotopically from the X-ray target through head shielding of the tomotherapy in all directions, however, angular distribution of leakage radiation is not the same in all directions. Since corrections or additions after the completion of facilities are expensive or, lead to expensive or, costy, it is important that security concerns be addressed and structural shielding be properly designed and installed during the original construction process. This study is based on theoretical shielding calculation which is performed on new Radiotherapy facility designs for an architect to implement, radiotherapy shielding calculations are primarily based on NCRP Report No.151. The shielding calculations method for radiotherapy facilities are recommended by NCRP Report No.151 can be applied for radiotherapy with different energies mentioned in the report; however, this project study will focus only on radiotherapy with 6MV. This project was done to design a new radiotherapy facility based on NCRP 151 requirements. Other reference materials with the appropriate radiation shielding calculations and materials were assessed. The result of the study showed that the total dose rate at the maze entrance was found below the instantaneous dose rate limit. (author)
