The use of 'reference levels' in the medical radiodiagnostic

The use of radiations in medical diagnosis has two aspects which are closely related with human health, being this a quick and effective tool to evaluate correctly an specific clinical case. The objective is to justify the practices and then obtain doses as low as be reasonably possible. The 'reference levels' are a tool at the disposal of the responsible professional to optimize the procedures and the irradiation conditions of his patients in order to obtain the above mentioned objectives. The proposal to establish 'reference levels' is stated in a document of the International Commission of Radiological Protection (ICPR) and from these recommendations several associations and organisms of the European Community and the United States evaluated the conditions and established the first values for the techniques of most common use
