A search for a Cygnus X-3 muon signal in the IMB detector

  • 1. Michigan Univ. Ann Arbor (USA)

Description

There have been two recent reports of an underground muon signal associated with the X-ray binary Cygnus X-3. Such a signal cannot be explained in the context of currently accepted physics. We have examined the muon data collected with the IMB proton decay detector in search of a similar signal and set upper limits to the muon flux from the direction of Cygnus X-3. Subsamples of the data taken during Cygnus X-3 radio burst periods have been separately analyzed
