Description

CdTe detector spectrometers resolution was determined with respect to the detector operating voltage used, the size of the operating resistance used, specifications of the charge preamplifier, detector polarization after operating voltage application, time of charge collection of the detector electrodes, and to the detector operating temperature. A comparison was made of the planar and spherical CdTe detector configurations for some typical values of μtau. The 7.4 keV resolution at an energy of 122 keV (57Co) at room temperature was obtained by the optimum spectrometer adjustment. Detector subcooling to a temperature of -40 degC while a non-resistance preamplifier was used helped achieve a resolution of 1 keV for an energy of 5.9 keV (MnKsub(α)). (author)
