Ion sources and preaccelerators: summary
Creators
Description
A brief summary is given of the work of the ion source/preaccelerator working group at a workshop on a Heavy Ion Demonstration Experiment (HIDE) for heavy ion fusion. The key R and D issues are the development of high intensity, high brightness heavy ion sources, the development of high voltage (1 to 3 MV) accelerating columns and associated high voltage power supplies and the development of an understanding of space charge neutralization, and charge changing interactions at low energies
