Radioactive contamination of food
Description
In this thesis assessment of gamma emitting radionuclides in food and environmental samples, such as vegetables, meats, milk, eggs, water, soil and grass was carried out by using High Purity Germanium detector (HPGe) detector and multichannel analyser. During these investigations, potassium 40 was the main radionuclide present in all food and environmental samples except water samples. The concentration of potassium 40 in vegetable varied among the sample whereas in milk products there was no sharp difference of activity level. The average concentration values in environmental samples, soil and grass samples showed higher concentration of potassium-40. The indication of cesium-137 was also noted in food and environmental samples, but the activity levels were very close to the detection limit of measuring setup. (Orig./A.B.)
