Description
The characteristic of intracavity frequency doubling from a diode side-pumped Nd:YAG laser with a KTP crystal was investigated, in which the diode power was directly transferred into a 3-fold symmetric diffusive cavity through narrow slits. In a V-folded resonator, 30 W of green output was obtained with an optical-to-optical efficiency of 16.5% at an acousto-optic Q-switching frequency of 13 kHz. It was demonstrated that the green power, the pulse width, and the beam quality factor were strongly dependent on the Q-switch gate time. The horizontal beam quality factor and the pulse width decreased steeply when the Q-switch gate time decreased below 1.2 μs. This was due to the temporal overlap of the pulse tails to the Q-switching loss
