Radial excitations of rho and π mesons and their strong decays
Description
The radial excitations (L=0) of rho and π mesons are analyzed in terms of the relativistic quark model of spontaneous quark-antiquark pair production from vacuum, including a combination of Coulomb and linear potentials. The masses of the meson excitations and the partial widths of their decay are evaluated . The erimentally observed rho'(1220) and rho''(1560) states are identified as the first and the second radial excitations of the rho(770) meson. The basic modes of the rho'→ωπ and rho''→rho2π strong decays are interpreted and suppression of the minor rho'→2π and rho''→ωπ modes is found out. The radial pion excitations are predicted in the mass range of M(π')=1100-1200 MeV and M(π'')=1300-1500 MeV as a function of the strength of spin4spin quark interaction. The π' resonance may undertake the both decay channels: π'→rhoπ and π'→epsilonπ, the last one being suppressed in the weak coupling scheme. The π'' resonance possesses the dominating π'→epsilonπ mode, while the π''→rhoπ mode is rather strongly suppressed, the last assertion being weakly dependent of the model
