Description

In the present study, activity concentration of natural radionuclides in locally used building materials in Ramanagar and Tumkur districts were investigated with an aim of evaluating the radiation hazard arising due to the use of these materials in the construction of dwellings. All building materials contain various amounts of natural radionuclides as they are derived from the rocks and soils, which always contain natural radionuclides of Uranium, Thorium series, and the radioactive isotope of Potassium. The activity concentration of thorium, radium and potassium in the samples were analyzed using gamma spectrometry, thirty five samples for seven different types of building materials such as granite, sand, paint, marble, vitrified tiles, brick and cement samples were analysed
