Is there depth to Gulf of Mexico gas
Description
The current status of natural gas exploration and development in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) is summarized. Several trends suggest continued increase in activity in the area. Various graphs illustrating leasing activity, deepwater discoveries, 1996 remaining proved oil and gas reserves and economically recoverable undiscovered resources in the Gulf of Mexico are presented. A number of graphs showing projections of oil and gas production, a geological cross-section of the Gulf, block diagrams of submarine fan facies distribution and a map showing subsalt wells were provided. It was suggested that the deep water GOM has significant promise, and there is reason to expect that it will continue to add large amounts of reserves. Significant reserve additions are also expected from shallow water subsalt plays as the depth below the salt is explored. tabs., figs
