Nuclear fuel pellets for use in laser thermonuclear
Description
Purpose: To effectively utilize once absorbed laser energy for fuel pellets in an inertial confinement thermonuclear fusion using laser as an energy driver. Constitution: A layer prepared from a laser beam permeable material is attached to the outermost side of a nuclear pellet having a multi-layered spherical shell structure. Energy that has been released externally along with free expansion is confined within and absorbed into the pellet for effectively utilizing the laser energy. That is, since the once absorbed laser energy can not expand freely, an intense compression to the inside is resulted to form high density plasmas. As a result, high combustion ratio can be maintained with a high density and, further, scattering of the entire pellet is suppressed by the laser energy permeation layer to increase the confinement time and improve the energy gain.
