Safety evaluations of accident scenarios in high temperature gas-cooled reactors

Description

The advanced modular high temperature gas-cooled reactor, currently being developed in the United States, employs several inherent and passive safety systems. To assess its safety potential under very severe and low probability accident scenarios, the analysis tools for such transients have been developed and are applied. Applications of the resulting codes to these accident scenarios are presented, showing that even these severe accident transients would not cause any significant fission product releases, but might lead to investment losses.
