Projected response of panasonic dosimeters to submersion in and distant exposure by 133Xe

Description
The accident at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Plant demonstrated the need for environmental dosimeters to monitor offsite doses from noble gases. Different correction factors to achieve true dose equivalent are needed depending on whether the dosimeter is submerged in, or exposed at a distance to these noble gases. A detailed study has been made of the Panasonic thermoluminescent personal (801 and 802) and environmental (804) dosimeters to determine the difference in the dosimeters' response between submersion in and distance exposure to 133Xe, and to ascertain whether these dosimeters can distinguish between these two exposure geometrics.
