Effect of extract of achynanthis bidentatae on hemopoiesis of CFU-GM in irradiated mice

Description
Objective: To study the Extract of Achynanthis Bidentatae (ABE) on hemopoiesis of CFU-GM in irradiated mice and its mechanism. Methods: Using techniques of hemopoietic progenitors in vitro and diffusion chamber implantation in vivo, the authors observed the effects of Extract of Achynanthis Bidentatae (ABE) on white blood cell (WBC), bone marrow cell (BMC) and colony forming unit-granulocyte/macrophage (CFU-GM). Results: it is shown that the number of WBC and BMC in the ABE(50mg/l,100mg/l,200mg/l) and the number of CFU-GM in diffusion chamber in vivo, were significantly higher than that of irradiated control group, but there was no stimulation activity in vitro on irradiated mice. Conclusion: ABE can stimulate the proliferation and differentiation of the CFU-GM and may protect bone marrow of irradiated mice. (authors)
