This review delves into the intricate relationship between UV radiation and skin health, highlighting the molecular mechanisms and resultant clinical manifestations of UV exposure. Emphasis is laid on the indispensable role of plant-derived antioxidants in skin care, highlighting the diversity and therapeutic potential of phytochemicals found in medicinal plants. Furthermore, the inherent properties of herbal extracts tailored for skin health and photo protection were explored in-depth. As the extraction method profoundly influences the composition, stability, and bioavailability of plant extracts, various techniques and their repercussions were examined. The discussion further extended to methodologies enhancing the bioavailability and stability of extract constituents. An evaluation of the efficacy, toxicity, and potential risks of incorporating plant extracts into cosmetic products was presented, accentuated by observations on the emerging consumer-led revival in herbal cosmetics
