The Phenix nuclear power station - two years of operation

The breeding reactor of the Phenix nuclear power station became critical for the first time on the 31st August 1973. The power station was connected to the system on the 13th December of the same year. The tests carried out during this period enabled the rated output to be reached on the 12th March 1974. This report reviews the experience gained in the operation of the Phenix power station after two years' service, i.e. at the end of 1975. Following a brief description of Phenix and, in particular, of its characteristics as compared with power stations equipped with different types of reactors, the functioning of the station is examined from the following points of view: Availability, Efficiency, Economy, Protection against radiation.
