First results from experiment WA97

  • 1. European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Geneva (Switzerland)

Description

Experiment WA97 measures yields of strange and multi-strange baryons in Pb-Pb central collisions at 160 A GeV/c using a silicon micro-detector telescope placed inside the CERN Omega Spectrometer. WA97 is a continuation of the experiments WA85 and WA94 which have studied strangeness production in S-W and S-S interactions at 200 A GeV/c. Preliminary (on an ∼ 2% of final statistics) results on Λ0 and Λ0-bar production are given. The Λ0-bar / Λ0 ratio is 0.18 ± .03. (author)
