Life tests of miniature proportional counters

  • 1. Moskovskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (USSR). Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Yadernoj Fiziki

Description

Measurements of the resources of the face plane proportional counters designed for recording the flux of photons, electrons, protons and α-particles Under conditions of cosmic space are conducted. It is shoWn that the resource of proportional counters filled with inert gases without suppressing additions constitutes approximately (5-7)x1011 impulses. Control measurements have shown that gain remains constant in the limits of 5 %. The service life does not depend on the type of inert gas with which the counter is filled. Windows are the weakest point of the counters design. It is recommended to substitute material in a less degree subjected to radiation destructions for glass solder out of which the windows are made
