The spontaneous fission properties of 259Lr
Description
The kinetic energies of coincident fission fragments from the spontaneous fission (SF) of 259Lr were measured at the LBL 88-Inch Cyclotron using the on-line rotating wheel system. From these data, the total kinetic energy and mass distributions were derived. This isotope has a half-life of 6.4 seconds and a SF branch of about 23%, and was produced via the 248Cm(15N,4n). The mass distribution was found to be broadly symmetric (FWHM of 40--50 mass numbers) and the most probable pre-neutron emission total kinetic energy is about 200 MeV. The results are consistent with trends observed for other trans-berkelium isotopes
