Description
We explore the possibility of string theories based on a world sheet symmetry that corresponds to an extension of the Virasoro algebra by fractional spin currents. For the special case of world sheet symmetries related to SU(2), the explicit operator algebra satisfied by the symmetry currents is derived. Critical central charges and slope intercepts are proposed. (orig.)
