Fuel compositions on the base of inert matrices for plutonium and minor actinides burning out
Description
One of the ways of reactor core modernization for plutonium burning out is the use of principally new fuel, in which 238U is replaced by inert (nonfissionable) extender. The application of such fuel with inert matrix will allow to obtain maximal efficiency of burnout-reactor. The use of MgO, Fe+MgO, BaO, ThO2+MgO, ThO2, (Zr,Y)O2-x, MgAl2O4 as inert matrix is shown. The methods of synthesis, microstructure, phase composition and thermal properties of various fuel compositions are considered. The ceramics under consideration has increased thermal stability and thermal conductivity. Production of fuel compositions on its base will allow to achieve more deep burn up and increase reactor safety
Abstract (Russian)
Одним из путей модернизации активных зон для выжигания плутония является использование принципиального нового топлива, в котором 238U заменен инертным (неделящимся) разбавителем. Использование такого топлива с инертной матрицей позволит получать максимальную эффективность реактора-выжигателя. Показано применение в качестве инертной матрицы MgO, Fe+MgO, BaO, ThO2+MgO, ThO2, (Zr,Y)O2-x, MgAl2O4. Рассмотрены методы синтеза, микроструктура, фазовый состав и тепловые свойства различных топливных композиций. Рассмотренная керамика обладает повышенной термостойкостью и теплопроводностью. Изготовление топливных композиций на ее основе позволит достигать более глубокого выгорания и повысить безопасность работы реакторовAdditional details
