Age-dependent doses to members of the public from intake of radionuclides: Pt. 3. Ingestion dose coefficients
Description
In ICRP Publication 67 (ICRP, 1993: Age-dependent Doses to Members of the Public from Intake of Radionuclides: Part 2 Ingestion Dose Coefficients), ingestion dose coefficients are given for radioisotopes of sulphur, cobalt, nickel, zinc, molybdenum, technetium, silver, tellurium, and polonium using the revised tissue weighting factors (wT given by the Commission ICRP Publication 60 (ICRP, 1991: 1990 Recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection). In addition, a generic model for the biokinetics of lead and the alkaline earth elements strontium, barium, and radium was introduced for calculating ingestion dose coefficients for radioisotopes of these elements. Because new information on the biokinetics of plutonium and related elements in humans had become available since the issue of ICRP Publication 56, and information on excretion pathways is required for estimating realistic doses to the urinary bladder and colon as required by ICRP Publication 60, the biokinetic models used for calculating dose coefficients for radioisotopes of plutonium, americium, and neptunium were modified in ICRP Publication 67. Also included in ICRP Publication 67 are ingestion dose coefficients for the radioisotopes of the elements in ICRP Publication 56, using the revised wT values and a model for systemic excretion. Generic age-dependent turnover rates for bone mineral were adopted where no specific information is available. For this report, ingestion dose coefficients are given for radioisotopes of iron, selenium, antimony, thorium, and uranium. (Author)
