Description

The distribution of the hydrolytic species of Cr(VI) in aqueous solution depends on the pH and the concentration of Cr(VI) in solution. These same factors also affect the production of Cr(III). This study reports the effect of varying the acid concentration from 10-5 M to 2 M on the reduction of 10-6 M 51 Cr(VI) as a function of time. Species separation was by paired anionic and cationic exchange. The results show that the quantity of Cr(VI) initially present decreases with time, the decrease being more rapid as the concentration of acid increases, producing several different Cr(III) species.
