A reactor and a method for producing a new nuclear fuel
Description
The invention relates to a reactor and to a method for producing a new nuclear fuel. The clean 233U isotope is obtained from thorium in a light water reactor by separating thorium from the fissile fuel. Thereafter, that clean 233U isotope is directly added as fissile isotope enrichment to a new nuclear fuel which can be obtained without the troubles and hazards usually associated with the handling of uranium 233, and also without the expense and delays associated with gas diffusion enrichment. This can be applied to the generation of a new nuclear fuel containing isotope 233U

L'invention concerne un reacteur et un procede de production d'un nouveau combustible nucleaire. L'isotope propre 233U est produit a partir du thorium dans un reacteur a eau legere en separant le thorium du combustible fissile. Ensuite, cet isotope propre 233U est incorpore directement comme enrichissement en isotope fissile dans un nouveau combustible nucleaire qui peut etre realise sans les difficultes et les risques usuels de la manutention de l'uranium 233 et sans les frais et retards associes a l'enrichissement par diffusion gazeuse.
