FBTR fuel pin inspection system

  • 1. Raja Ramanna Center for Advanced Technology, Indore (India)

Description

Laser based instruments developed at RRCAT have been extensively used in various stages of the nuclear fuel cycle. A fully automated non contact pin inspection system for FBTR has been designed and developed. The system measures various parameters of fuel pin such as total length, pitch, bow, orientation and diameter with wrapped wire. These parameters are measured without any human intervention thus minimizing radiation exposure to operating personnel. Using optical non contact based shadowgraph technique and image processing tools, dimensional measurements have been carried out on the shadowgraph of the FBTR pin and geometrical data has been generated.(author)
