High temperature electrochemical synthesis of carbides, silicides and borides of the 6 th (A) group metals in ion melts

Description
On the basis of thermodynamic analysis of chemical and electrochemical reactions possible variants, systems and conditions for electrosynthesis of carbides, silicides and borides of chromium, molybdenum and tungsten were ascertained. Electrosynthesis of molybdenum and tungsten carbide powders from halide-oxide melts under excess pressure of carbon dioxide and from oxide tungstate-molybdate carbonate melts was carried out under thermodynamic conditions. Electrosynthesis of chromium, molybdenum, tungsten silicide and boride powders was realized under kinetic conditions. Oxide and halide-oxide electrolytes for electric deposition of molybdenum and tungsten carbide coatings were developed. 35 refs.; 6 tabs
