Effective operators in nuclear reactions

Description

The experimental backward angle behavior of protons elastically scattered off 6Li cannot be explained by the Resonating Group Method nor by Coupled Channels calculations. An attempt to explain that behavior is made by introducing a nucleon-nucleon spin-orbit potential. Only small effects are found. The polarization potentials arising from nuclear inelastic excitation are derived analytically using the plane wave approximation. Compared with exact Coupled Channels calculations the agreement is good the for heavy ion system 13C + 40Ca at 68 MeV and for the lighter system p + 40Ca at 30 MeV
