The high temperature phase diagram for zirconium-tungsten
Creators

Description
The high temperature regions of the Zr-W phase diagram have been constructed employing recently developed methods, namely, the determination of liquidus curve by the solubility measurements of tungsten in liquid zirconium and the direct pyrometric measurements of the melting, solidus, liquidus, eutetic and peritectic temperature by an optical technique. A peritectic compound ZrW2 exists in the Zr-W system. The melting point of zirconium, eutectic and peritectic temperatures are equal to 1860 deg, 1739 deg and 2160 deg C respectively. The maximum solid solubility of tungsten in zirconium, eutectic composition and the liquidus composition at the peritectic temperature are equal to 3.5, 9.5 and 23.5 atom % W respectively. (auth.)
