The results of high-energy electron therapy in carcinoma of the oesophagus compared with telecobalt therapy
Description
From 1 January 1968 to 31 December 1969, 597 cases of carcinoma of the oesophagus were treated by high-energy electron therapy and 615 cases by telecobalt therapy. The two groups were comparable with respect to site, size and morphology of the tumours, and showed survival rates. The 1-, 3- and 5-year survival rates were 36.2, 12.4 and 7.4% respectively, for electron therapy, and 35.9, 9.4 and 6.2%, respectively, for telecobalt therapy. (author)
