Experimental observation of the resonances of a bounded plasma in the electron and magneto-ion domain

  • 1. Ecole Royale Militaire, Brussels (Belgium). Lab. de Physique des Plasmas

Description

A hot electron and ion theory of RF power absorption utilising the resonances of a finite plasma cylinder, having the distinct feature of encompassing both the magneto-ion and the electron domain ( omega <or= omega ci up to omega ce and omega pe) is verified experimentally in the following parameter range: magnetic field strengths of 0-1000 G, electron densities (Ne) of the order of 109-1011 cm-3, electron temperatures Te of a few eV, ion temperatures Ti approximately=0, 105 Hz<f= omega /2 pi <109 Hz, axial wavelengths lambda /sub ///=2 pi /k/sub /// of a few centimeters.
