Safety, radiological protection and monitoring system for a secure cyclotron operation at Cen La Reina

  • 1. Comision Chilena de Energia Nuclear, Santiago (Chile)

Description

Considerations regarding safety, radiological protection and operational radiological monitoring included in the Cyclotron design are analyzed. Some important accelerator and installation safety characteristics are described to identify potential hazard features on the basic operating procedures of this machine. Radiological principles are considered to mock possible radiological events aiming to determine exposure doses to workers and general public under normal and emergency situations. From these simulations a functional design will be developed to comply with safety regulations. A performance profile, of radiological levels under normal cyclotron operation, to be applied on accelerator's short, medium and long term operation, will be optimized from such results (author)
