Oxidation of americium (3) in potassium carbonate solutions under intensive alpha-irradiation
Description
It is shown that the keeping for some time of the concentrated solutions of potassium carbonate containing americium (3) and curium (3) results in α-irradiation dose rate equal to 100-300 W/l and occurrence of radiolytic oxidation of americium (3) to americium (5) which precipitates as K3AmO2(CO3)2 salt. Under varying conditions the oxidation levels are 10-70%. Along with americium (5) in the system presumably, americium (6) appears with its subsequent reduction
