Local potential in the problem of the Lamb shift

  • 1. Institute of Applied Physics at Irkutsk State University (USSR)

Description

An approximate description of the Lamb shift in terms of a local analytic potential determined from first principles is proposed. The separation into high- and low-frequency contributions is related to the separation of the contributions from various intermediate states in the t channel. An exact expression is obtained for the logarithm of the average excitation energy from the zero-energy state, and for l=0 this gives the value -2.656
