The effects of buildings on low-level atmospheric discharges

  • 1. Central Electricity Research Labs., Leatherhead (UK)

Description

This study of building influenced dispersion provides a coherent assessment of both analytical and physical modelling techniques from comparisons with full scale data obtained at an operational nuclear power station. Plume sections showing the elevated structure and dilution of full scale plumes have been obtained using scanning lidar equipment and dual smoke/SF6 tracers. Complementary wind tunnel studies have been made and validation studies between full and model scales have been carried out. The limitations of some popular simple dispersion models have been assessed from comparisons with the measurements. (author)
