Electroweak interactions with nuclei
Description
The author discusses the unified theory of the electroweak interactions. Quantum hadrodynamics (QHD) is discussed as a relativistic quantum field theory of nuclear structure based on hadronic degrees of freedom; it provides a theoretical basis for the relativistic nuclear many-body problem. It correlates and explains many features of nuclear structure including: nuclear densities, the shell model, and intermediate energy (p,p) scattering. The problems within the framework of QHD are discussed. It is considered whether or not one can derive QHD from quantum chromodynamics (QCD). It is noted that to be a correct theory, QCD must reproduce nuclear structure including: meson exchanges, baryon dynamics in nuclei, and meson dynamics in nuclei
