Spherical fuel element for high temperature reactors

Description

The proposal deals with spherical fuel elements for high temperature power reactors in which the fission or breeder material is arranged in loose bulk in the form of coated particles in the cavities of a spherical graphite body. Such spherical fuel elements formed of 2 parts do not have a good mechanical resistance. According to the invention, it is suggested to design the two conical cavities lying inside the graphite sphere with processing openings closed by stoppers, through which the fission or breeder material is introduced. Abstract (German)

Der Vorschlag betrifft kugelfoermige Brennelemente fuer Hochtemperaturleistungsreaktoren, bei denen der Spalt- oder Brutstoff in loser Schuettung in Form beschichteter Teilchen in den Hohlraeumen eines kugelfoermigen Graphitkoerpers angeordnet ist. Solche aus 2 Teilen gebildeten kugelfoermigen Brennelemente haben keine gute mechanische Bestaendigkeit. Erfindungsgemaess wird vorgeschlagen, die beiden im Innern der Graphitkugel liegenden kegelfoermigen Hohlraeume mit durch Stopfen verschlossenen Bearbeitungsoeffnungen zu versehen, durch die der Spalt- bzw. Brutstoff eingefuellt wird. (UWI)
