Device for detecting gases, in particular fission gases, in the coolant channel of a liquid-cooled nuclear reactor fuel element
Description
In controlling sodium cooled fast nuclear reactors it is important to provide for the early detection and localization of cladding tube defects in individual fuel elements. For this reason it is proposed to install in the coolant duct of a fuel element a cyclone assigning a rotary movement to the coolant in the duct, and in the center of the cyclone a heated thermocouple as a detector. For heating purposes the thermocouple may be embedded in a body containing fissile material, or it may be heated electrically. The device according to the invention for the detection of gases is very sensitive and has a short response time. (UWI)

Fuer die Ueberwachung von natriumgekuehlten, schnellen Kernreaktoren ist die fruehzeitige Entdeckung und Lokalisierung von Huellrohrschaeden an einzelnen Brennstoffelementen wichtig. Es wird daher vorgeschlagen, im Kuehlkanal eines Brennelements einen Zyklon, der dem Kuehlmittel im Kanal eine Rotationsbewegung gibt, und in das Zyklonzentrum ein beheiztes Thermoelement als Detektionseinrichtung einzusetzen. Zur Beheizung kann das Thermoelement in einen Koerper eingebettet sein, der spaltbares Material enthaelt, oder man heizt elektrisch. Die erfindungsgemaesse Einrichtung zum Feststellen von Gasen ist hochempfindlich und hat eine kurze Ansprechzeit. (UWI)Files
