Lead Equivalent Thickness Testing Services for Medical X-Ray Room for Clients of Nuclear Malaysia from 2010 until 2018

Description

Lead equivalent thickness test of a shielding material in diagnostic radiology is very important to ensure radiation protection principles to the patients, employees and members of the public are met. From the Malaysian Standard MS 838, each medical X-ray room must be constructed using appropriate shielding materials with sufficient thickness, for example the shielding thickness for general radiography, panoramic dental radiography and mammography rooms shall have a minimum thickness of 2.0 mm lead (Pb) equivalence, 1.5 mm Pb equivalence and 1.0 mm of Pb equivalence, respectively. In this paper, the data on the service of lead equivalent thickness test for medical X-ray rooms that have been conducted in health centres from 2010 to 2018 will be reported. (author)
